Connect Using Your Remobo Username

We recently fixed some issues with our DNS servers not resolving certain names correctly, and it reminded me about one of the great features built into Remobo.

Instead of remembering IP addresses, you can connect with any of your buddies by using the domain name: [buddyname].remobo.com

If your buddy is logged in at multiple locations and you need to specify it exactly, just use: [location].[buddyname].remobo.com

For example, if “joe” is logged in at at “homePC”, you can reach him using joe.remobo.com or homePC.joe.remobo.com

This will always resolve to his current virtual IP for easy access no matter what application you are using. It’s also great for mobility sine “joe” can login anywhere and still be reachable with that same domain name. It’s like having a free dynamic DNS service built in whenever you are using Remobo!

We hope you enjoy this feature and let us know if you have any comments or feedback!

Remobo 0.13 is Now Available

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for their great feedback and bug reporting. We have just released version 0.13 and it will be a mandatory upgrade since it fixes a few connectivity bugs that will improve the overall network and user experience.

We have also added:
- better security when saving your password for auto-login.
- the option to change your Remote Control and incoming connections password, so its independent from your Remobo password.
- lots of bug fixes.
- some slight UI tweaks

You can download it here

A MAC OS X version will follow very soon we hope! It’s working now in-house, but we need to polish it up before releasing :-)

Thanks for using Remobo!

Registration and Login Issues Fixed

We have recently resolved some back-end issues that were causing problems with some users registering and logging in. This was due to a DNS process locking up and taking a long time to return.

Hopefully everyone should experience trouble free logins and registrations from now on. This fix does not require a client upgrade.

Thanks for bearing with us during this beta phase! Feel free to report any issues you see in our community forums. We have more exciting stuff coming soon!

New Remobo Version 0.12

We have just upgraded our backend servers to support the growing number of Remobo users and also today released a new version 0.12.0

This fixes a lot of the buddy list and registration issues some of you have seen and improves the performance and connectivity of Remobo. You will not see too much in the form of aesthetic changes, but it is a mandatory update since many of the internal improvements are not backwards-compatible. Sorry for the hassle of needing to upgrade, but we assure you this version is much better! :-)

Thanks again to everyone who has helped us root out these bugs as we get closer to our official release.

Another bit of good news, we now have a MAC OS X version of Remobo running in-house, so we just need a little more time before it will be available for download :-) Enjoy!

Remobo 0.11 is Now Available

After months of hard work, we are pleased to announce the release of Remobo version 0.11! It includes many bug fixes and changes based on your feedback and we also added a much anticipated new feature:

Private BitTorrent Swarms

Remobo allows you to share files privately and securely with your friends, family or coworkers using BitTorrent technology. Just select which files you want to share, and Remobo will create a private swarm between you and the users in your buddy list. Then, you can search and browse through everyone’s shared files and the best part is you can use any standard BitTorrent client to complete the download. The network traffic is all encrypted and there are no central servers or trackers to monitor your actions. Its a great way to share private data, large files, and media between people you trust.

You can download Remobo 0.11 here, and existing 0.9 or 0.10 users will need to upgrade to this new version, because of the many bug fixes.

Thanks for everyone who has been supporting Remobo! We hope you enjoy the newest features…

Server Updates

It’s been a couple months since my last post… but don’t worry we have been very busy working on Remobo :-)

We recenty upgraded our servers that facilitate logins and buddy list storage… so users that were having weird problems obtaining their buddy lists or having trouble logging in should no longer see these errors. Please try it out and feel free to report any errors or let us know your comments in the community forums.

Also, we are still on track to release our new client very soon with some exciting new upgrades to the file sharing app in particular ;-)
