When I introduce Remobo to people, one of the first questions peole ask is: How did you come up with the name “Remobo”? Well, Remobo started as the combination of two words: “Remote” + “Mobility”.
At our startup company, AWIT Systems, we are a small distributed team that collaborate remotely. We don’t have a central office where people work in the same LAN environment everyday from 9 to 5. Wherever we work or play, we wanna be able to access all our computers & devices, from whatever computer we can access at that moment, and we don’t want the overhead of time and money to build, configure, or maintain our own VPN network. Essentially, we want to create a virtual computer network that’s centered around “humans” (ie, us), instead of “computers” (as it is today for existing VPN solutions).
So, instead of carrying our computers & devices with us and limiting our network access based on the computer identity, we rolled up our sleeves and created this new technology of virtual computer networking that decouples “Computer Identity ” from “Humain Identity”; we call it “Instant Private Networking (IPN)”, and Remobo is the first showcase of our IPN technologies.
With Remobo, You can create your own IPN, which can be accessed from any computer that you happen to log into at any time, and you can run all your favorite client/server applications over this Remobo IPN.
Remobo has redefined what a virtual network means to people: it allows the computer network to be created around the human user identity, instead of fitting human users into computers and their networks. And this is where the name “REMOBO” comes from: we’re RE-defining what “MOBility” is abOut; It’s humans that need mobility, not the computers.
The CEO of a prominent laptop manufacture has recently said: “30 years from now, you won’t see people carry their laptop computers around.” It’s true that, in sci-fi movies, you don’t see people carrying computers, either. Data should be available at whatever device they’re using from anywhere at anytime.
With Remobo, it’s time for the era of “Mobility 2.0″.

Our new beta is finally available for download. It has taken lots of hard work and a few delays along the way, but we think it is a huge improvement over the old alpha version. You can get it here. Enjoy!
